Menopause Weight Gain, Fatigue, and Frustration: My Personal Survival Journey

If you’ve hit your 40s or 50s and suddenly feel like your body is betraying you, I’ve been there. You’re doing “all the right things”—working out, eating clean, staying disciplined—yet the scale creeps up, your clothes fit differently, and your energy has left the chat.

That was me.
And I thought I was ready for menopause.
I was wrong.

Despite training hard and meal-prepping every weekend, my body had its own agenda—I gained 15 pounds seemingly overnight, my ankles swelled, and my midsection started to resemble a spare tire. The fatigue was so intense that I’d put my car in park at stoplights because I was afraid I might doze off. I doubled down on discipline, but nothing worked.

In desperation, I went from doctor to doctor, getting bloodwork and asking, “What’s wrong with me?”

But I knew something was wrong—because I didn’t feel like myself. I felt like an alien in my own body. The fatigue was so intense that I’d put my car in park at stoplights because I was afraid I might doze off, and yet every doctor kept insisting nothing was wrong. Instead, I was given antidepressants and anxiety meds. Over and over, I was told, “Nothing’s wrong.”

Fast forward 12–15 years, and I can tell you: I survived menopause. And not only that—I’ve made it my life’s mission to help other women navigate this transition without feeling as lost as I did.

So, here’s what I want you to know: You are not crazy.
Your body is changing. It might feel like you’re going through hell—and in some ways, you are. But like the old country song says, “If you’re going through hell, keep on going.” Don’t set up camp in the struggle.

Is it Per Menopause Menopause or something else 1

Here’s what helped me, and what I now teach my clients:

  • Give yourself grace. You are not failing—you are adapting.
  • Educate yourself. Learn what’s happening physiologically so you can work with your body, not against it.
  • Follow the experts. Dr. Marie Claire Haver, Dr. Stacy Sims, Dr. Vonda Wright, and Dr. Gabrielle Lyon are incredible resources on menopause, strength training, nutrition, and lifestyle strategies.
  • Train smarter, not just harder. Your workouts, nutrition, and recovery need to evolve during this time.
  • Manage your stress. It’s not optional—it’s a non-negotiable for hormone health.

If you’re in the thick of it and need guidance, reach out to me. I’ll share what I’ve learned, walk beside you, and help you reframe your mindset so you can navigate these changes with strength, confidence, and maybe even a laugh or two.

Menopause might feel like the end of the story—but I promise you, it can be the start of an incredible new chapter.
